Acid Reflux Picture

A picture speaks a thousand words. While researching on acid reflux, I came across this video that helps explain how Acid Reflux comes about.

Watch how your esophagus gets acid into it. Unfortunately, your esophagus is not like your stomach. It cannot handle acid and any acid here is likely to cause damage.

When acid backs up into the esophagus, you experience heartburn. When your symptoms are severe, such that it happens more than 2-3 times per week, you may have acid reflux disease (known as GERD). GERD is a condition whereby your lower esophageal sphincter (LES) relaxes more often than it should and/or at inappropriate times.
